Elizabeth Olsen created handmade Michelle Pfeiffer calendars when she was a youngster.
Despite her older siblings Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen being bona fide A-listers almost since birth, Elizabeth became obsessed with a different actress growing up.
“Michelle Pfeiffer,” she said without hesitation while chatting to Britain’s Metro newspaper. “I would look up photos of her on the interweb and print them on bad paper with bad ink. I would get a calendar of puppies of something that I made it a Michelle Pfeiffer calendar. I thought she was so cool. She was so WOMAN to me. I just fell in love with her. It started with Grease 2 and Catwoman.”
While her twin sisters started acting from a very young age, Elizabeth found fame much later. She made her big screen debut in 2011’s Silent House, and has gone on to star alongside acting greats like Josh Brolin and Bryan Cranston.
Over the past few years she’s become best known as Marvel character Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch. She’s back in the mutant role in Captain America: Civil War, and is loving her time as a Marvel hero.
“I have friends who go to Comic-Con for work and their job every time is to take photos of as many Scarlet Witches as they can!” she laughed. “That’s really cool. I’ve never been a part of something that has an iconic look before.”
As one of Hollywood’s brightest young talents, 27-year-old Elizabeth gets sent scripts on a regular basis. However she often misses out on roles as casting directors sometimes struggle to see her in a certain light.
“It’s usually a thriller with a strong woman in s**tty circumstances!” she said of roles she’s sent. “A lot of the jobs I don’t get are usually given to more typical character actresses. People don’t see me as those parts.”
Kim Basinger prefers men’s clothes to women’s.
The 62-year-old actress was one of the biggest pinups in the ‘80s, after her sexy turn in cult movie 9½ Weeks which featured the infamous feeding scene with co-star Mickey Rourke. She then brought her femme fatale charms to 1997 film L.A. Confidential, but in real life Kim admits she’s not one for glitz and glamour.
“I’m not a red-carpet girl; I’m not a fashionista at all – I’m not feminine enough!” she laughed to The Edit. “I love dressing men; I love men. If I were a fashion designer, I’d design men’s clothes. But as for me? I’m just not very high maintenance. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I shower…”
For the accompanying photo shoot, Kim rocks more tailored masculine looks, including trousers by Alexander McQueen and a suit by The Row. Sneakers and a fedora hat also add to the androgynous vibe.
Over the years Kim has starred alongside some of Hollywood’s most handsome actors, and she’ll soon be reuniting with her L.A. Confidential co-star Russell Crowe in film The Nice Guys.
Ryan Gosling also stars, and Kim confirms he is as good looking in the flesh as he is on screen.
“Ryan is one of the coolest, most polite men that I’ve ever dealt with, in movies or otherwise. He’s natural and kind and sweet. When I first met him, I was like, ‘Is this guy for real?’ And yes, he’s absolutely as good looking and charming as everyone thinks he is,” she smiled.
Fans of Kit Harington have shared pictures of the actor’s nude behind online.
The former Game of Thrones actor stars as the lead character in Doctor Faustus at London’s The Duke of York’s theatre.
In the avantgarde staging of the play, Kit, 29, shows plenty of his muscular body as he spends most of the play in his underwear, and also strips off for a shower scene that exposes his naked bottom.
However some audience members have captured his semi-nude scenes on their camera phones and shared them on social media.
One fan shared an image on Twitter alongside the caption: “Still haven’t quite got over how intense ‘Doctor Faustus’ was! I would recommend (esp if you like Kit Harrington),” reports the Evening Standard newspaper.
When Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe starred in play Equus, leaked full frontal nude photos of the star were circulated online.
Kit’s turn in the Christopher Marlowe play has been met with mixed reviews – but speaking at the gala night performance he told the Evening Standard: “I like to do work that seems very extraordinary and weird and whether they work or not at least they are trying to do something different.”
The play – which features a modern section by Colin Teevan – follows a man who sells his soul to the devil in order to be with the woman he loves.
The Times newspaper’s theatre critic Ann Treneman gave the show a positive review, writing, “It’s all wildly OTT (over the top) but I must admit I rather liked it.”
Doctor Faustus runs at the Duke of York’s theatre until 25 June (16).
Ellie Goulding used a live radio interview to ask Calvin Harris when their next collaboration will be released.
The Burn singer has worked with her good pal on tracks I Need Your Love and Outside, and she revealed they had teamed up for another song when she sent a message into The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw for the DJ’s interview on Friday (29Apr16).
Ellie informed Nick that Calvin was being secretive about what was happening with their next collaboration, so Nick read out Ellie’s message, saying, “Can you ask him when our next song is going to be ready, slash, out?”
Calvin reacted awkwardly to the question, insisting they hadn’t even finished the track yet so Ellie needs to come back into his studio to work on it.
“I mean, that’s insane,” Calvin replied. “It’s impossible to say, isn’t it? She did record a vocal for me but there’s no hook at the moment to that track… So it’s kind of hard to say. I think she needs to get probably back in (the studio) in order to finish it… I can’t just conjure up something.”
He then joked that he could finish it by singing himself but he doesn’t want to make a duet like Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan’s 1988 song Especially For You.
“It’s hard to say Ellie, I’m sorry,” he concluded. “But any queries feel free to text me direct, rather than do it live on Radio 1.”
Ellie’s question came after Calvin’s fellow DJ Diplo and sister band Haim sent in queries to the show for Calvin to answer. Haim asked which band member he would like to go shopping with while Diplo wanted to know about Calvin’s exercise equipment and why Rihanna wasn’t texting him back.
“She won’t text me back either,” Calvin replied. “She’s just chilling. I’m not sure if she’s even got a phone sometimes… well that’s fine, she’s Rihanna. She’s in the moment.”
Kim Cattrall has spoken about her private struggle with insomnia, which was once so crippling that it prevented her from working.
The 59-year-old actress is most well known for her role as man-eater Samantha Jones on U.S. TV show Sex and the City. But on Friday morning (29Apr16) Kim revealed that her turbulent love life is one worry that keeps her awake at night.
Kim, who has been single since splitting from husband Mark Levinson in 2004, opened up about her battle with insomnia in a special programme on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.
She told listeners that her sleeplessness, which she described as “like a three-tonne gorilla sitting on my chest”, first began when she travelled to London, England, in October 2015 to star in a play. At first she put it down to “jetlag … too much tea (or) another stage of menopause”, but as it continued night after night, she started to worry. Her father had died of dementia three years previously, so Kim started to call her own mental health into question.
Kim added that her worries in the early hours of the morning included: “I didn’t go to university and I didn’t have children, I have no husband… I’m guilt-ridden and I’m alone… I’m agitated about getting friggin’ older… I will be found out that I am a sham, I’m too strident … I’ve gotten to where I am because I’m f**kable… I’m frightened I will not be accepted or liked by others as a strong woman… I’m not talented enough, I just got lucky.”
As the sleeplessness stretched into weeks, Kim decided to see a doctor who diagnosed with her exhaustion due to insomnia. She pulled out of the play after being advised to do so by her friends, and was replaced by Noma Dumezweni in the production.
Upon her return to New York, Kim opted to give cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) a try, and was told by her therapist to limit what she did in the bedroom to “sleep and sex”.
She added that one way she curbed her insomnia was through coming to terms with the death of her father, explaining: “I realised that if he could die, I could too. And fearing death is a colossal waste of time, because guess what? I won’t even know I’m dead. And strangely, that’s comforting.”
Lawmakers have shut down plans to declare 26 May John Wayne Day because of the actor’s racist comments.
The Oscar-winner made his name playing cowboys and heroic soldiers in classic Hollywood movies including The Alamo, True Grit and The Green Berets. But in a State Assembly vote legislators lined up to denounce the Hollywood star, and objected to commemorating his birthday due to his “disturbing views towards race”.
Republican State Assemblyman Matthew Harper had put forward the proposal to mark the day the actor was born, following a Texas resolution commemorating Wayne’s birthday being passed last year (15). The bill, ACR137, failed 35-20 on Thursday (28Apr16) after some intense debate.
Democratic Assemblyman Luis Alejo of Watsonville denounced Wayne’s views on race.
He quoted a 1971 interview the actor gave to Playboy magazine in which he said: “I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don’t believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.”
Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez quoted Wayne’s views on Native Americans from the same interview: “Our so-called stealing of this country from them was just a matter of survival. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves,” the actor told Playboy.
Wayne’s support for the anti-communist House Un-American Activities Committee, recently profiled in Hollywood film Trumbo, and the far right John Birch Society was also brought up.
After the defeat Harper said the proposal failed due to “the orthodoxy of political correctness”.
Adam Levine’s pregnant wife Behati Prinsloo has constant cravings for watermelon.
The Maroon 5 frontman is expecting his first child with the Victoria’s Secret model, and thanks to pregnancy cravings she simply can’t get enough of the fruit.
“She’s eating a lot of watermelon, a lot of watermelon,” Adam said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night (28Apr16). “Because, you know, they get random cravings for stuff and it’s just like, so much watermelon!”
Behati isn’t just sticking to healthy snacks, she is also a big fan of ice cream, and in a show of solidarity, Adam has also begun eating more food alongside his wife, adding, “I eat a lot of stuff… A lot of stuff.”
Adam confirmed he was going to be a father on Instagram in April (16) by sharing a picture of Behati sunbathing in a two-piece bikini, with a small bump on display.
He said being a parent had always been part of his plan and he cannot wait to meet the child, which is thought to be a little girl. He recently told ETOnline.com, “I’m ready to be a dad. You’re born to be a parent, that’s what we’re here for, really. All the other s**t is great, but it’s not what we’re here for.”
He also admitted that he was so excited about being a dad that he was planning to spoil his wife. When asked if he would be doing the same with his child, he replied to E! Online, “Kid’s not even out yet. Can’t be spoiling a kid before a kid gets out.”
The 37-year-old married the Namibian model, 26, in 2014. They were spotted hunting for a new family home in the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood of California earlier in April (16).
Drake’s brand new album has shot straight to the top of the iTunes charts in the U.K. and in the U.S.
The Canadian rapper’s new album Views was released exclusively on Apple Music and iTunes, and within hours it had topped their influential download charts.
The highly anticipated new record features production work from Kanye West and Southside, and appearances from frequent collaborators Rihanna and rapper Future.
Drake’s fourth studio album – his longest with 20 tracks – includes his first U.K. number one single One Dance featuring Wizkid and Kyla, and Pop Style with Kanye and Jay Z who appear collectively as The Throne.
On Thursday (29Apr16) night the Toronto native gave a wide-ranging interview to Beats 1 DJ Zane Lowe before his global listening party for the new album kicked off on Apple Music. During the interview he discussed his strained relationships with former collaborator Nicki Minaj and sometime mentor Jay.
On the night before the album’s release, Drake wrote a long thank you note to his producer Noah “40” Shebib on Instagram, which read: “Before we do this I just wanna say thanks man. Thank you for the years you spent working with some of Toronto’s true legends honing your craft. Thanks you for dropping everything to work with me after we met and realized we had something special.
“Thank you for pushing yourself despite the fact you should be resting to achieve an end goal that we are both obsessed with. Thank you for listening to me vent and talking me off ledges.”
“Thank you for reminding me that we set out to do something more than just have the biggest song in the club or the biggest song of the month.”
Iggy Azalea debated whether her fiance deserved to know the tattoo he was getting was spelt wrong.
The Australian rapper has been hit with rumours that her basketball player beau, Nick Young, has been unfaithful after video footage of him boasting about being a womaniser leaked in March (16). They remain united though, despite Iggy commenting a few times that she’s had to talk to him about the claims.
So when Nick was close to having an incorrect inking recently, the musician wasn’t sure whether she had to heart to tell him. Sharing a picture of the design on Twitter, it showed the sportsman’s back with the world ‘BORN’ already permanently outlined. However, she stepped in when realising the tattoo artist was about to write ‘REBLE’ rather than ‘REBEL’.
“(I told Nick) ‘I didn’t know you were a little reble,'” Iggy grinned talk show host Seth Meyers. “I had to think about telling him. Does he deserve this? But I love him.”
She expressed her affections for him on Twitter too, saying it was her feelings for Nick that made her stop the mistake.
During her appearance on Seth’s Late Night show Iggy also discussed her new album, Digital Distortion. It’s scheduled to drop in June (16) but unlike her debut record The New Classic, this offering won’t feature any guest artists.
“I did have kind of like a crazy year. Last year was a big year for me in my life,” she explained, referring to collaborations like Fancy with Charli XCX and Black Widow with Rita Ora. “And so, I wanted to think about it in some way, still a way that was fine and people could enjoy. But I felt like it was really important for me to be the one delivering that message.”
Iggy also treated the audience to a performance from Digital Distortion’s first single, Team, while on the programme.
A host of U.K. TV stars paid their respects to music producer David Gest at a funeral service on Friday (29Apr16).
The producer-turned-reality TV star was declared dead on 12 April (16) after he was found unresponsive in his room at the Four Seasons hotel in London, aged 62.
His family and friends attended Golders Green crematorium in London to say farewell to Gest and they were joined by Coronation Street soap stars Kym Marsh and Ryan Thomas, former EastEnders stars Danniella Westbrook and Dean Gaffney and Gest’s former Celebrity Big Brother housemates Stephanie Davis, Jeremy McConnell, Gemma Collins, Darren Day, and Kristina Rihanoff.
TV personalities Vanessa Feltz, Denise Welch and Christopher Maloney were also in attendance.
It is thought his ashes will then be taken to York, England, where Gest has been living on and off in recent years.
Gest, who was married to Liza Minnelli between 2002 and 2007, was a close childhood friend of Michael Jackson who became better known as a TV personality in his latter years thanks to stints on reality shows I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and Celebrity Big Brother, which he quit early on medical grounds in January (16).
Gest had been planning a soul concert tour ironically titled David Gest is not Dead but Alive With Soul. His friend Imad Handi has been given permission from Gest’s lawyers to go ahead with the shows and the title will remain in a nod to his “mischievous sense of humour”.
The title was inspired by a mix-up in the Big Brother house when contestant Tiffany Pollard thought Gest had died when Angie Bowie told her “David” had passed away – but she meant David Bowie.
The nine-date tour begins in York, England on 1 July (16) and Band of Gold singer Freda Payne will replace Gest as host.
