Katy Perry has mixed feelings about fashion’s Oscars night, the Met Ball, because no one can top Lady Gaga.
The I Kissed a Girl singer loves to dress up for the New York style party, which this year takes place on Monday night (02May16), but she admits she wishes she had more choice.
“It’s great, it’s so much fun, it’s the best party, but you’re a little bit beholden to designers you know,” she told PeopleStyle at the launch of her Katy Kat collection with CoverGirl. “When I create my own costumes for tour, it’s like whatever the f**k I want to do. It’s just, like, larger than life: ‘Can it move, can it smell…?'”
And because she’s a little restricted, Katy always worries Lady Gaga will out-dress her.
The Roar singer feels no one will match up to Gaga this year as the theme of the Met Gala is Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.
“I’m sure like Gaga is going to arrive on a drone, and I’ll just be like, ‘Grrr! Again! S**t!'”
Many fans are hoping Katy’s make-up will pop – the singer has just launched a new CoverGirl line, featuring colours and shades she used to like wearing when she was a teenager growing up in Santa Barbara, California. One item is a black lipstick.
“I started out experimenting with make-up really early on,” she added. “It was very strange, my mother wouldn’t let me wear thongs but, she would let me wear red lipstick. I was like, ‘Nobody can see the thong. They can see the red lipstick!’ I didn’t understand it. But at 13 I was wearing blush, lipstick, and mascara.”

Beyonce has shattered Taylor Swift’s Billboard album chart record by landing Hot 100 places for all the tracks from her new album Lemonade.
The R&B superstar released her surprise new solo effort last month (Apr16) via her husband Jay Z’s streaming service Tidal and other digital websites.
Each of the 12 tracks on Lemonade have charted on the Hot 100 countdown, led by Formation, which Beyonce performed at the Super Bowl, at number 10 and new entry, Sorry, at 11. Sorry features hard-hitting lyrics that suggest Beyonce and Jay Z may have experienced marital problems.
Her three collaborations with The Weeknd, Jack White and Kendrick Lamar all made it into the top 50.
The feat surpasses Taylor’s previously chart best of 11 tracks on the Hot 100 in the same week – a milepost she achieved in 2010 with the digital release of the songs from her Speak Now album.
In addition, Beyonce makes further Billboard history as the first female act to have 12 or more songs concurrently on the Hot 100. Justin Bieber holds the title among all artists, having charted 17 songs in December (15).
Lemonade is also the number one album in the U.S.
It hit the top on Sunday (01May16) with the biggest sales week of 2016 so far.
Beyonce is now the only artist to reach number one with her first six studio albums.
Prince is also big on the U.S. pop charts this week, scoring eight Hot 100 hits, beginning with Purple Rain at number four.
Desiigner’s Panda has scored the top spot for a second successive week, followed by Drake’s One Dance and Lukas Graham’s 7 Years.

Former wild child Drew Barrymore is the person she has always dreamed of becoming thanks to her two daughters.
The 41-year-old Blended star didn’t have the greatest upbringing and landed in rehab at the age of 14. She also spent 18 months in an institution for the mentally ill.
But, thankfully her kids Olive, three, and Frankie, two, are showing no signs of becoming troubled teens, and in fact they’ve really helped mum grow up.
“My daughters have made me behave as the person I always dreamed to be,” she gushes to U.S. news show Extra, noting her destructive behavioural patterns seem to be gone for good. “It’s like, I would always climb that mountain and I would fail time and time again have a reaction that didn’t make me feel proud of myself or, you know, you’re just growing, trying to be the best person you can be.
“Somehow my daughters have just pushed me over and I still fail all the time and I just get home at night and I’m like, ‘I didn’t lose it, I somehow took the high road ’cause you forced me to’.”
Drew shares her two little girls with estranged husband Will Kopelman, who the star split from earlier this year (16), and now that she is co-parenting with her soon-to-be ex, the actress is finding new ways to entertain her children.
Unlike her fellow Hollywood A-lister Megan Fox, who recently revealed she has banned her kids from watching television, Drew confesses her girls may be spending a little too much time in front of the boob tube.
Drew notes: “You know what? It’s a good thing to occupy their time. I still love TV, too… but those mothers who are like, ‘I never let my kids watch TV’. I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, I totally let my kids watch TV! Am I a bad mother?'”

Supermodel-turned-actress Kate Upton is officially off the market after revealing her engagement ring at the Met Gala on Monday night (02May16).
The 23-year-old stunner was one of the many celebrity guests at New York’s annual fashion bash, but all eyes were on the massive diamond ring on her left ring finger, custom designed by her fiance, baseball star Justin Verlander.
And the blonde beauty admits to E! News the happy couple has been hiding the engagement news since last month (Apr16), shortly before Justin went back to work for the Detroit Tigers.
“I’m really excited,” she said. “He asked me right before (the baseball) season started so we’ve been keeping it on the down low for quite a while. So I’m excited to finally be able to share it with the world!”
Kate also revealed she is in no hurry to walk down the aisle and become Mrs. Verlander, adding, “We are enjoying the engagement period.”
Kate and Justin met while shooting a video game commercial in 2012, and have been dating on-and-off since 2013.
She’s clearly smitten with her man, recently telling E! News, “We’re very open with one another and we’re each other’s best friends. He’s definitely my best friend, so I think that helps a lot.”
The supermodel went solo to the Costume Institute Gala Benefit, aka the Met Ball, because her new fiance was hoping to lead his Tigers to a sixth successive victory against the Cleveland Indians in Ohio, but she had plenty of other big names to keep her company, including co-chairs Taylor Swift and Idris Elba, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kerry Washington, Selena Gomez, Emily Blunt, Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, Alicia Vikander, Zoe Saldana, Katie Holmes, and Katy Perry.

Actress Kerry Washington is marking America’s National Melanoma Monday (02May16) by encouraging fans to take better care of their skin.
The Scandal star is a creative consultant for beauty brand Neutrogena, and as part of her role, she has become a leading voice in the company’s Choose Skin Health campaign, which aims to make people think more about skin cancer.
Kerry admits she has learned a lot from the campaign herself, and she is determined to hammer home the fact skin cancer can be preventable – as long as people stop taking risks.
“When I started working with the company, I actually didn’t know enough about skin cancer and the massive epidemic that it is in this country,” she explained on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America.
“Three hundred and fifty people are diagnosed (with skin cancer) every hour in this country… and it’s one of the most preventable forms of cancer, so the fact that we can really educate people to use SPF, to use sunblock, to protect themselves, to avoid having to deal with this, I feel proud to be a part of this movement, this initiative.”
The mother-of-one reveals she learned early on in life about the need to use sunscreen from her mum, and the African-American beauty wants to pass down the same lesson to her young daughter, two-year-old Isabelle.
“We have found in our studies that the more a child watches their mum use sunscreen, the more likely they are to protect themselves,” she said, “and I thought, well that makes sense ’cause I watched my mum do that her whole life, which is rare, because I think in a lot of communities of colour, and in the Latino community, the black community, we tend to think that we’re not vulnerable, which actually puts us at more risk.
“There are a lot of benefits to melanin; it’s very, very pretty,” Kerry smiled. “Brown girls rock, black girls rock, but we still are at risk of skin cancer, so it’s really important to protect ourselves.”

Bradley Cooper and director Todd Phillips are facing a lawsuit over their new movie War Dogs.
Efraim Diveroli is suing Cooper, who is a producer on the film, Phillips and executives at Warner Bros., claiming they had unauthorised access to his Once a Gunrunner manuscript and could have used elements from it in the film.
The movie centres on a pair of drug users who become arms dealers after they win a $300 million (GBP205,000) contract to supply American allies with weapons in Afghanistan.
The screenplay is reportedly based on a 2011 Rolling Stone article and a subsequent book written by Guy Lawson, while Diveroli was in jail serving a four-year sentence after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy. In 2008, he was accused of infringing upon the terms of his contract with the U.S. Government and being in violation of a pre-existing arms embargo.
According to TheWrap.com, Lawson contacted Diveroli about writing a book after the article, but when Lawson released Arms and the Dudes in 2015, he was listed as the only author. Diveroli claims he agreed to co-author the book as long as Lawson kept the details confidential and promised to keep him included in the plans to sell the rights to a movie studio.
After the book was released, Diveroli formed his own company, Incarcerated Entertainment, and wrote Once a Gunrunner. Diveroli’s business partner, Ross Reback, then attempted to shop the manuscript to bosses at movie studios. A copy was also given to producer Elliot Kahn and his business partner, Simon Spira, who is the son of Warner Bros. executive Steven Spira.
Phillips was already reportedly working on the script, using the original Rolling Stone article, but Diveroli claims the filmmaker could have been given unauthorised access to the manuscript and used it for rewrites.
In the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court of Tampa, Florida, Diveroli is seeking damages and a jury trial for fraud and breach of a nondisclosure agreement.
War Dogs, which stars Jonah Hill and Miles Teller, is slated to hit U.S. theatres in August (16).

X-Men: Apocalypse filmmaker Bryan Singer has assured critics Oscar Isaac’s titular villain will meet fan expectations when the movie hits cinemas.
The director has faced a backlash online ever since trailers for the latest movie adaptation were first released, with devotees questioning the look and sound of Oscar’s Apocalypse character, which appeared to be vastly different from how the giant was portrayed in the comic books the film is based on.
Bryan has now addressed each criticism directly to clear up misconceptions about the forthcoming movie before it hits theatres later this month (May16).
Discussing the tone of Oscar’s voice in the first X-Men: Apocalypse trailer, he explained it was simply recorded unedited for the promo, just so they could get the footage out.
“(The first X-Men: Apocalypse trailer) was simply Oscar using his normal voice – which is wonderful; his performance is fantastic – but that was never the intention,” Bryan told IGN.com. “We just needed those words to govern the first teaser. So people thought, ‘Oh, wait, is that going to be his voice during the whole movie?’ It’s like, ‘No’, but to tell the story of the first teaser, we needed the voice, and I hadn’t recreated the voice yet.”
He reveals Oscar’s vocals will be vastly different throughout the film.
“It ebbs and flows and moves through the movie, and changes, so he doesn’t just have one single voice,” the director said. “He speaks with different voices depending on different moments in the film.”
Fans also took issue with the apparent size of Apocalypse, who is supposed to be larger-than-life – but Bryan insists making him a giant onscreen just didn’t fit the film.
“I could have made him a giant through the whole movie, or some muscle-bound guy who can’t act – I could always do that,” Bryan explained. “But the reality is… it was very important that he’d be able to connect with his horsemen, at their level, and that he’d be played by a guy who can actually act like Oscar, who’s a fantastic actor.”
Meanwhile, Bryan claims the pink colouring of Apocalypse’s costume in early photos was just a result of lighting, as the character is actually blue.
“There was an image released on Entertainment Weekly, where the effect hadn’t been put in yet…” he said. “The effect has a pink light on it, and everyone got lit up, so people thought Apocalypse was going to be pink. I was like, ‘No, no, they’re all pink. Take a look. Everyone in the picture is pink. It’s a pink picture!'”

Pop star Katy Perry’s lips are in the headlines again years after she sang about kissing girls with cherry Chapstick.
The Firework singer has joined forces with CoverGirl Cosmetics for her very own Katy Kat Collection, which features an eye-popping black lip liner.
“I obviously wanted a variety of classic colours, and colours that would fit all of the different skin tones,” she told Teen Vogue, “but for me, I always push the envelope and try for a unique look.
“I know CoverGirl has been around forever, and they’re super classic, but, for instance, they never had a black lipstick, and I’m like, ‘Guys, it’s 2016!'”
As well as the black lipstick, the 31-year-old’s other favourite item from her collection is a new blue mascara – another shade she used to love wearing when she was younger, but always struggled to get hold of in her local drugstore.
“I used to wear blue mascara all the time back in the day, but it would cost me an arm and a leg,” she continued. “These – both the mascara and lipstick – are $6.99. I think you can play. You can use blue mascara and black lipstick, finally. I wanted to cover the classics, but also bring in my own spin, which is loud and bright and playful and definitely unique.”
Katy understands some of her fans might have reservations about wearing black lipstick, but she was more than happy to give them a quick tutorial on the dos and don’ts when it comes to the dark shade.
“It’s a nice demi-matte, so it’s going to stay,” she said. “A gloss black, no. Black is very tricky. It can get everywhere and then it falls and then you’ve got some grey here. This to me is great, because it stays. It’s not too matte.
“I find it very high fashion. It’s kind of like… when I used to do all of the hair colours, that was my accessory. I didn’t have to accessorise a lot. If you pop a black lipstick on, even if you don’t have time to do very much else, you’re still saying something. You’re still making a statement that’s cool and edgy and unique and different.”

Director Justin Lin has signed on to develop a sequel to cult basketball comedy Space Jam, starring LeBron James.
The Fast Five filmmaker will co-write the script with Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello, while Lin is also in talks to direct and produce the project via his Perfect Storm Entertainment company, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The news emerges months after rumours of a Space Jam sequel first picked up pace, after studio bosses at Warner Bros. filed new trademarks for the franchise in June, 2015.
Reports of a follow-up to the 1996 film were further fuelled when LeBron and his production partners at SpringHill Entertainment inked a new business deal with executives at Warner Bros. Entertainment, encompassing projects in TV and film.
The Cleveland Cavaliers star, who displayed his comic timing in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck last year (15), is now set to show off his acting skills in Space Jam 2, following in the footsteps of basketball legend Michael Jordan, who agreed to help beloved Looney Toons’ characters win a basketball match against aliens to win their freedom in the 20-year-old original.
The live-action/animated film also featured other basketball greats, such as Larry Bird and Charles Barkley, and actors Danny DeVito and Bill Murray.
A release date for the Space Jam sequel has yet to be announced, but it is the latest big project to be added to Lin’s slate. The filmmaker, known for his work on the Fast & Furious franchise, is currently putting the finishing touches to the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, which is set to hit theatres in July (16).
